Motor Trend: Official EPA Numbers Announced for 2010 Subaru Legacy, Up to 23/31 MPG
The numbers are up, and the fresh-for-2010 Subaru Legacy will return an EPA-estimated 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway when properly equipped. Best mileage on the 2009 model was just 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, so this is a healthy improvement.

Accelerating hybrid-diesel plans: Subaru didn't plan to introduce diesel-powered models to the North American market until at least 2012, but that schedule could be move up a year in the wake of U.S. President Obama's recently announced fuel-economy standards. The push to 35.5 mpg by 2016 could also be moving up Subaru's hybrid vehicle plans. The company will likely fast-track its first wave of clean diesels to comply with the newly minted regulations. Moreover, Subaru's first hybrid could hit the market at about the same time.
